Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a diligent Staff Nurse to provide individualized, evidence-based nursing care from admission through discharge. The role emphasizes ethical patient advocacy, collaboration with families, and continuous care planning in a fast-paced environment.

Required is a BSN with an Illinois RN license and BLS; advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS/ENPC, TNCC) are expected within one year per unit needs.

Qualifications

• BSN required and Illinois Registered Nurse licensure in good standing.
• ACLS, PALS/ENPC & TNCC within one year of hire for ER or related areas.
• BLS required with strong collaboration and communication skills.
• ADN may be considered if the candidate commits to obtaining a BSN within 3 years.
• Experience in emergency or pediatric care is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess and record patient status at admission or point of care.
• Organize health data to keep the plan of care accurate and accessible.
• Identify problems needing immediate attention.
• Validate diagnoses with the patient/family and care team.
• Document diagnoses to support expected outcomes and care plans.
• Initiate and update discharge planning from admission.
• Provide patient/family education based on evidence and practice.
• Collaborate in multidisciplinary meetings to plan care and referrals.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
• Reassess nursing actions to ensure achievement of outcomes.
