Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Modify and/or adapt the K12 curriculum to align with state standards for each student.
  • Write and maintain compliant IEPs for identified students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to meet student goals.
  • Educate parents on instructional strategies and progress.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation and coordinate IEP meetings.
  • Proctor testing and administer alternative assessments when required.
  • Collaborate with related services to monitor IEP goals.

Job description

The Middle School Intervention Specialist, grades 6-8, works with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional and physical disabilities to ensure that lessons and teaching strategies meet the students’ needs, teach independent living skills, and provide appropriate literacy, communication, and math skills.

Certificate and License: State of Ohio Intervention Specialist License

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Ohio resident preferred Will consider applicants from a surrounding state to Ohio within one hundred miles from the Ohio border. Border states include Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Indiana. Applicants must be able to meet travel requirements and be willing and able to obtain Ohio Certification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities. Start Date: August 2026

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Modify and/or adapt the K12 curriculum in alignment with the state’s content standards to meet the unique needs of each student
  • Writes and maintains compliant IEPs for students identified with special needs
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to meet the goals of the student
  • Educate parents on various instructional strategies
  • Prepare appropriate documentation
  • Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings
  • Proctor achievement and other required testing to students including alternative assessments if required
  • Collaborates with related services team to ensure IEP goals are developed and monitored
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • State of Ohio Intervention Specialist License
  • Bachelor Degree AND Minimum 1 year classroom experience OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
  • The ability to clear required background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Special Education
  • 3 or more years of classroom experience in Special Education
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position is virtual with some required travel for professional development and for testing. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school. The noise level at meeting locations throughout the state is typically moderate and should not vary much from what is experienced in the home office.
