Prisma International, Inc. (Prisma) seeks experienced onsite interpreters to provide simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation in California. Onsite work may be accompanied by Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) as needed.

Applicants should be bilingual, with English and another language, and capable of working in a professional setting. Preference is given to court-certified interpreters in California or US Federal Courts; non-certified applicants must have at least two years of onsite

Qualifications

• Minimum: English fluency and fluency in another language.
• Court-certified in California or with US Federal Courts preferred; otherwise two years onsite interpretation experience.
• Three professional references confirming status as a professional onsite interpreter.

Responsibilities

• Provide simultaneous and consecutive onsite interpretation for non-English speakers and officials.
• Review background documents before assignments to ensure accurate interpretation.
• Utilize Zoom and other virtual interpretation tools when required.
• Maintain professional appearance, courteous demeanor and punctuality.

Prisma is actively seeking experienced onsite INTERPRETERS to join our team of independent contractors. In this role, you will provide simultaneous and/or consecutive ONSITE interpretation (OSI) services to Prisma clients in the state of California. Video Remote (VRI) appointments may also be available.

IN-DEMAND LANGUAGES: SPANISH, plus CHINESE (CANTONESE), KOREAN, PUNJABI, TAGALOG and VIETNAMESE.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the following specialized topics: Water board meetings/hearings, environmental and public health management, water conservation, regulatory and resource funding.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - applicants must meet ALL of the following:

• Preferred candidates will be court-certified in California or with US Federal Courts. If you are not court-certified, you MUST have at least two years of onsite (in person) experience interpreting in legal/courts settings and/or for state/federal government offices. Your resume must outline your relevant experience
• Trained and/or tested by recognized interpretation skills assessment organizations and/or higher education institutions
• Three references who can confirm your status as a professional onsite interpreter
• Full fluency in English and the other language
• Minimum age: 18+ years or older
• Minimum education: High School Diploma

Ideal candidates shall be able to provide:

• Simultaneous and consecutive onsite & video remote interpretation for non-English speakers and state government representatives
• Effective review and understanding of all necessary background documents prior to assignments
• Strong experience using virtual interpretation tools (e.g., Zoom)
• Ability to use tabletop sound booths, interpreter control units, FM transmitters, and headset/receivers
• Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high-level of customer service
• Correct concepts and meanings between the speaker and Limited English Proficient (LEP) speakers
• Correct grammar, clarity, and tone between English and the other language
• Experience with following the speaker's direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and managing the flow of a conversation.
• Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP
• Professional appearance, polite demeanor, and being punctual
• Compliance with applicable ethics and standards
