Job summary

Didlake, Inc. is seeking a qualified ASL Interpreter to provide clear, accurate interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees and participants.

You will support meetings, trainings, orientations, and day-to-day interactions in person and via video conference, adhering to professional interpreting standards. The role requires RID certification, an Interpreter Training Program or equivalent, and at least three years of experience, with travel to Didlake locations in the greater DC

Qualifications

  • RID or nationally recognized interpreting certification.
  • Completion of an accredited Interpreter Training Program, Associate’s Degree, or equivalent professional interpreting experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional interpreting experience.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and English.
  • Ability to travel to Didlake locations in the greater Washington, DC and Hampton Roads areas.

The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter provides clear, accurate interpreting services to ensure effective communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees and participants at Didlake. The Interpreter supports an inclusive workplace by facilitating communication in meetings, training, events, and day-to-day interactions, both in person and through virtual platforms. This role follows professional interpreting standards, maintains confidentiality, and works closely with staff to support reasonable accommodation.

What You Will Do
  • Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and ASL into spoken English in meetings, trainings, orientations, interviews, and other workplace situations.
  • Provide interpreting services in person and remotely using video conferencing technology.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources and departments to support reasonable accommodation requests.
  • Work effectively with other interpreters, including team interpreting when needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of accessible Didlake trainings and materials.
  • Provide feedback regarding external ASL interpreter agencies as requested.
  • Attend work regularly and follow assigned schedules; hours may include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Complete all required training and participate in meetings or committees as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Current certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or another nationally recognized interpreting certification.
  • Completion of an accredited Interpreter Training Program, Associate’s Degree, or equivalent professional interpreting experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional interpreting experience.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and English.
  • Ability to travel to Didlake locations in the greater Washington, DC and Hampton Roads areas.
  • Access to Didlake sites requires a valid REAL ID.
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to interpret accurately without adding, omitting, or changing meaning.
  • Knowledge of ASL and English grammar, vocabulary, and cultural differences.
  • Ability to remain impartial in emotionally charged or high-pressure situations.
  • Understanding of interpreter ethics and applicable accessibility laws.
  • Proficiency with computers, office equipment, and video conferencing platforms.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
