Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking an EEG Technician to conduct electroencephalographic examinations and evoked potential monitoring in clinical and intraoperative settings. You will assist physicians by recording brain activity, preparing impressions, and observing patients under anesthesia while ensuring electrode placement and patient safety.

The role requires completing an EEG Technology program and eligibility for board registration.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of post-high school. One- or two-year accredited program in EEG Technology, including completion of required clinical affiliation preferred.
• Eligibility to sit for written examination for formal registration by the American Board of Registration in Electroencephalographic Technology within three years of placement in position (1,000 EEG examinations required).
• Knowledge of EEG techniques, concepts and equipment.
• Ability to apply knowledge to clinical setting and expand

Responsibilities

• Performs a full range of EEG and EVP procedures in hospital settings including operating room, radiology, and laboratory.
• Monitors brain activity of patients under anesthesia and communicates pertinent information to the surgeon.
• Supports EEG monitoring and related procedures including brain mapping, intraoperative EEG, Evoked Potential Monitoring and special electrode recordings.
• Interviews patient to obtain medical history and explains procedures to reduce anxiety.
• Ensures electrodes are sterilized and placed correctly; applies precautions to prevent infections.
• Calibrates and checks accuracy of EEG/EVP equipment and reports malfunctions.
