Job summary

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a post-high school EEG program (1–2 years).
• Eligibility to sit for ABRET written examination within 3 years.
• Knowledge of EEG techniques, concepts and equipment.
• Ability to measure and place electrodes accurately on the head.
• Analytical ability to formulate concise impressions of EEG findings.
• Leadership skills to direct and evaluate staff in the department.

Responsibilities

• Interview patient to obtain medical history and explain procedures.
• Ensure electrodes are sterilized and placed correctly; monitor electrode performance.
• Calibrate anesthesia-related devices and report malfunctions.
• Select electrode combinations and obtain continuous EEG recordings; identify artifacts.
• Record observations and clinical manifestations during testing.
• Review tracings and prepare impressions indicating focal or artifactual changes.
• Provide training and guidance to other technologists; participate in hiring and discipline when needed.
• May provide on-call services; may monitor brain activity under anesthesia and assist surgeon.
• Maintain equipment; perform basic repairs and support QA procedures.
• Engage in ongoing education and attend conferences or seminars.
