Job summary

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. in Alabama is seeking a student intern in mechanical engineering or a related field to support buildability for a new vehicle launch.

You will work with SAP-like MB applications such as Smaragd and Zeus, coordinating with CEP-Hub and R&D to reduce complexity and costs. You will gain hands-on experience with CAD design, tooling integration, and factory processes, starting February 2027, under a paid internship with visa and housing assistance.

Qualifications

• Education: student in Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical Engineering or related area.
• Proficiency in MS Office; data analysis and problem solving skills required.
• German language skills preferred; MB applications experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with coordination of buildability for new vehicle launches.
• Support CAD design tasks and tooling integration to improve fit and function.
• Collaborate with CEP-Hub, R&D, and production for continuous improvements.
• Prepare documentation and participate in buildability-related meetings.
• Gain exposure to MB applications like Smaragd, Dialog, and Zeus.

Essential Functions

• Coordination of product buildability points for a new type vehicle launch
• Utilize Zeus tracking system for implementation of countermeasures required to achieve buildability in new type product
• Work with CEP-Hub and R&D to reduce complexity of product design/commonize similar components to improve manufacturability as well as reduce input costs
• Work with production team support to identify top build concerns during ramp-up and series production of a new type vehicle and coordinate improvements with CEP-Hub and R&D
• Interface regularly with Chief Engineer Production (CEP) Hub in Sindelfingen and across a global network, as well as Research and Development (R&D) to identify and implement product improvements
• Utilize CAD Software (Smaragd/Engineering Client) for digital Buildability confirmations
• Engagement in design and integration of tooling to promote better vehicle quality

Other Regular Daily Tasks

• Assistance to the Chief Engineer Production management staff in special projects
• Assist with meeting coordination and scheduling for buildability related meeting rounds
• Projects centered around CAD design to create fixtures to improve the fit and function of the vehicle

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.Education:

Student in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or in a related area, and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in University or in a gap year between Bachelor's and Master's degree
• Studies outside of the U.S.A (we are not accepting applications from students who are currently studying in the U.S.A)
• A minimum of 3 semesters of studies in relevant field of study
• Available for a minimum of 6 months
