Job summary

The Perryman Company is seeking a motivated summer intern to join the Safety team in 2027. You will work on projects across industrial hygiene, general safety, fire safety, ergonomics, and environmental areas to protect our employees and facilities.

You will maintain records, conduct testing, inspect work environments for hazards, and support compliance with environmental regulations as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Environment, Health, and Safety, Safety Management or related field.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to report and correct unsafe workplace behaviors.
• Detail-oriented and thorough in follow-through.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Develop individual projects in industrial hygiene, general safety, fire safety, ergonomics, and environmental areas.
• Maintain records and conduct testing per permits.
• Perform industrial hygiene tasks: sample prep, record results, observe observations.
• Inspect facilities for hazards and safety violations; recommend safety features.
• Review machinery plans to ensure safety compliance.
• Assist facilities with Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations.
• Contribute to creating/updating safety or environmental procedures.
• Identify and correct potential hazards during facility inspections.
• Document incident investigations in the ETQ system.
• Participate in safety committees at each facility.
• Engage with Operators and Supervisors to resolve EHS issues.

The Perryman Company is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated summer intern to join our Safety team in 2027! Our safety team manages and investigates the safety protocols in our facilities to ensure that the most important part of our operations is protected - our employees.

Key Result Accountabilities

• Individual projects will be developed in the areas of industrial hygiene, general safety, fire safety, ergonomics, and environmental (as needed).
• Maintain records and conducts testing as required by applicable permits.
• Perform assigned Industrial Hygiene work including preparing samples, recording test results, and recording numerical and visual observations.
• Monitor the general work environment, inspect buildings and machines for hazards and safety violations, and recommend safety features in new processes and products.
• Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to make sure that they meet safety requirements.
• Support facilities to comply with all Federal, State, and Local Environmental regulations.
• Work as an individual or in a team to develop or modify existing safety or environmental work instructions, policies, or procedures.
• Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment.
• Conduct incident investigations and enter them into the ETQ investigation tracking system.
• Be an active participant in the safety committees at each facility.
• Interact on the floor with Operators and Supervisors to find solutions to EHS related issues.

Requirements

• In the process of obtaining a degree in Environment, Health, and Safety; Safety Management; or any other related field.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to report and correct unsafe workplace behaviors
• Must be detail orientated.
• Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
