Job description

In order to support Airbus Defence and Space we are looking for an Intern (d/f/m) in the Flight Management Systems department. Are you looking for an internship and want to get to know the work of an Aerospace Engineer? We look forward to you supporting us in the Flight Management Systems department as an intern (d/f/m)! Location: Manching Start: October 2026 Duration: 4-6 months

Reliable and efficient algorithms for multi-agent trajectory planning is an essential building block of future autonomous flying systems. In recent years, the incorporation of machine learning methods to enhance optimization has proven to be advantageous. Despite these advantages, the applications to complex and certifiable products remain limited.

We are looking for a creative Master student to enhance novel optimization methods for robust multi-aircraft formation flight. The work may involve a wide range of mathematical and algorithmic methods, spanning from geometrical approaches to state-of-the-art deep learning techniques. The student will benefit from the close support of experienced members from our research and technology team, a plateau tasked with development of advanced algorithms.

The department "Flight Management Systems" at Airbus Defence and Space is in charge of system design and development of military and civil Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Flight Guidance functions. This covers manned aircraft and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) like Barracuda, Eurodrone, Bird of Prey and Ravenstorm including automatic/autonomous operations of these unmanned aircraft.

Your location Located about an hour’s drive north of Munich, Manching is an up-and-coming market town that offers a wide range of leisure and cultural activities. Here, you can enjoy the quality of life in the countryside while the pleasures of near‑by cities are still within easy reach.

Benefits
  • Attractive salary and work-life balance with a 35-hour week (flexitime).
  • International environment with the opportunity to network globally.
  • Work with modern/diversified technologies.
  • At Airbus, we see you as a valuable team member and you are not hired to brew coffee, instead you are in close contact with the interfaces and are part of our weekly team meetings.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.
Your tasks and responsibilities
  • Research and development of algorithms for multi-agent trajectory planning.
  • Enhancing the functionality of existing algorithms in Python and C++.
  • Support in the preparation of relevant documentation for future research.
