Job summary

Delta Dental Plan of Michigan, Inc. is offering an Internship in Application Development located in Okemos, MI, with a hybrid work model. This internship is aimed at undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in Computer Science or related fields.

Internship - Application Development

Number of Positions: 1

Location: Okemos, MI (Hybrid Position)

This internship is scheduled to start Summer Semester 2026. At Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana we work to improve oral health through benefit plans, advocacy and community support, and we amplify this mission by investing in initiatives that build healthy, smart, vibrant communities.

We are looking for a highly talented and motivated undergraduate or graduate student who is pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical fields.

Responsibilities
  • Work on cutting-edge, large‑scale enterprise business application platforms.
  • Build AI proof‑of‑concepts, explore new AI technologies, work well in a dynamic research setting, and possess strong Python skills.
  • Contribute to our next‑generation platform leveraging browser‑based clients written in Angular, backed by Java‑based REST services, and highly scalable and complex backend systems, conforming to strict security standards.
  • Gain first‑hand experience on modern system architecture, such as Service‑Oriented Architecture (SOA), Event‑Driven Architecture (EDA), web frameworks, and enabling technology such as REST, JSON, Kafka, containerization, RPA, content management systems, etc.
  • Apply the fundamentals from Computer Science/Engineering curriculum to real‑world problems.
  • Communicate your work to other teams and develop your skills explaining technical subjects to a business audience.
Qualifications
  • Be self‑motivated and able to contribute in a team setting.
  • Excel at problem‑solving, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Have demonstrated experience programming in at least one of the mainstream languages such as Java, Python, C++, etc.
  • Have some experience or knowledge in modern web application development languages and frameworks such as HTML/CSS, Angular/React, etc.
  • Have experience with OpenAI, LLM frameworks.
  • Show solid skills in data structure and algorithms design/analysis.
  • Have good understanding of software architecture, Object‑Oriented (OO) analysis/design, and commonly used design patterns such as factory, composite, etc.
Minimum Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and have completed at least one course or equivalent experience with programming in Java, Python, C++, or other similar languages.
