Job summary

Lewis Brisbois is seeking an International Trade Associate for its Washington, DC office. The role focuses on export controls and ITAR, with exposure to federal agencies and cross‑border regulatory matters.

You will work on licensing, internal investigations, and risk assessments, collaborating across practice groups in aerospace, defense, technology, and other sectors. The position offers competitive compensation and long‑term career development.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of substantive international trade experience with focus on export controls and ITAR.
• Additional experience in sanctions, tariffs, customs compliance, or trade enforcement is strongly preferred.
• Excellent academic credentials; Law Review, journal experience, or a judicial clerkship considered a plus.
• Exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills.
• Admission to practice in the District of Columbia or eligibility to waive in.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on export control compliance, including EAR and ITAR classifications, licensing, technology transfers, and voluntary disclosures.
• Support matters involving OFAC sanctions, tariff classifications, Section 301/232 issues, and Customs enforcement.
• Assist with internal investigations, audits, and responses to agency inquiries from BIS, DDTC, OFAC, CBP, and related authorities.
• Draft legal memoranda, compliance policies, training materials, and regulatory filings.
• Monitor and analyze developments in U.S. and international trade policy, including national security‑driven regulatory changes.
• Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups to address cross‑disciplinary issues involving corporate transactions, government contracts, cybersecurity, and foreign investment.
