Job summary

Lewis Brisbois is seeking an International Trade Associate Attorney in Washington, DC with 3-7 years of exposure to export controls, ITAR, and related regulatory matters. The role involves counseling clients on compliance strategies and handling cross-border regulatory issues.

The position offers exposure to federal agencies, opportunities to work on investigations and regulatory filings, and a collaborative environment across practice groups.

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of substantive international trade experience focusing on export controls and ITAR.
• Experience in sanctions, tariffs, Customs compliance, or trade enforcement preferred.
• Strong legal writing, research and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on export control compliance, including EAR and ITAR classifications, licensing, technology transfers, and voluntary disclosures.
• Support matters involving OFAC sanctions, tariff classifications, Section 301/232 issues, and Customs enforcement.
• Assist with internal investigations, audits, and responses to agency inquiries from BIS, DDTC, OFAC, CBP, and related authorities.
• Draft legal memoranda, compliance policies, training materials, and regulatory filings.
• Monitor and analyze developments in U.S. and international trade policy, including national security-driven regulatory changes.
• Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups to address cross-disciplinary issues involving corporate transactions, government contracts, cybersecurity, and foreign investment.
