Job summary

SEKO Logistics is hiring for an on-site role in Columbus, OH to manage day-to-day shipments and customer service across domestic and international routes. You will handle documentation, carrier negotiations, rate quotes, and ensure accurate paperwork while maintaining cost controls.

The role requires four years of freight forwarding experience, strong communication, and proficiency with standard office software and SEKO systems. Benefits and compensation align with state/local requirements.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet and web-based applications and job specific software applications.
  • Must have data entry experience.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic with US/international units.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the day-to-day shipments originated and/or handled by the operations department.
  • Prioritize, schedule and route shipments and arrange for transportation throughout the United States and internationally and obtain POD on all orders.
  • Produce all necessary documents, bills of lading, etc.
  • Answer phones, book, and work with all shipments with carriers.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communication with our customers and vendors.
  • Research and respond to any agent requests.
  • Work with vendor-specific websites to set up and track shipments.
  • Determine routings for overseas and origins if required.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers, vendors, and agents.
  • Assist in the preparation and approval of rate quotes or shipment costing for internal and external customers.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Ensure timely pick-ups, recoveries, deliveries, and airline and agent selection, while maintaining cost controls.
  • Effective communication with them is essential to ensure shipments are executed timely and accurately.
  • Maintain accurate status updates of shipments including in-transit notifications and estimated time of deliveries.
  • Communicate daily with customers to keep them informed of changes pertaining to their shipments should an update apply or be required.
  • Communicate pending work and/or unresolved problems to shift personnel and the operations manager.
  • Accurately manage and maintain departmental administrative tasks such as accounting, reporting and recordkeeping in accordance with internal policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Enter pickups and route freight, then file documents after completion.
  • Enter new accounts and/or do maintenance on account files when needed.
  • Entering & maintaining customer tariffs in domestic operating system, SEKO RED NA.
  • Process cargo manifests, calculate charges, and coordinate all areas of freight release.
  • Proactively solicit customer feedback and provide innovative solutions to customer service issues/barriers.
  • Must be aware of FAA Security program, packaging and crating procedures, and hazardous materials management.
  • Comply with SEKO’s C‑TPAT Security Profile TSA Certified and SEKO’s Core Values.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Co‑operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

REQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required with ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must have a positive attitude and be professional.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet and web-based applications and job specific software applications.
  • Must have data entry experience.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of U.S. and/or international currency, weight, volume, and distance measurements.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
  • Effectively participates in department projects related to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Possess functional knowledge of regulations and compliance procedures associated with all areas of freight forwarding.
  • Have experience in multimodal logistics with functional knowledge of TSA, C‑TPAT and Hazmat.
  • Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence, enter all shipment info into SEKO system.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum four years’ freight forwarding experience. Must be a self‑starter and have excellent organizational skills.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of work experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that base salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience, performance in the role and potential for revenue generation (Producer roles only). Compensation The base salary compensation range being offer for this role is $18 - $25 USD per year. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
