Job summary

The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson (Main Campus) is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for the Internal Medicine clinic. This full-time position supports routine administrative and clinical duties to keep the office running smoothly and assists physicians with patient examinations.

The CMA performs patient check-in, vitals, venipuncture, specimen prep, and basic nursing tasks while maintaining accurate records and upholding safety and infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Record management and accounting skills.
• Ability to collect, record, and maintain data.

Responsibilities

• Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, obtains medical histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.
• Performs routine specialized procedures such as venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes in accordance with established protocols; collects and prepares laboratory specimens for analysis.
• Arranges examination room for instruments and equipment; sterilizes medical instruments; disposes of contaminated supplies; and maintains stocks of medications and medical supplies.
• Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established guidelines.
• Performs administrative duties such as answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing medical records, verifying demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, and performing billing and bookkeeping tasks.
• Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
