Based on agile project management, interns contribute to strategic projects that protect reliability and affordability of Vermont's transmission system. You will work alongside engineers, technicians, and operations staff, perform field vegetation assessments near rights‑of‑way, and develop practical skills in forestry, GIS, and environmental resource practices.

VELCO’s Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is a summer internship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate college students. Based on principles of agile project management, AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO’s strategic projects to protect reliability and affordability of the transmission system.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental science, arboriculture, GIS, or a related field.
This position requires significant field work and the ability to safely navigate transmission rights‑of‑way, wooded areas, uneven terrain, steep slopes, and other outdoor environments.
The position may require:
Collaborative, cross‑functional team environment. Open office setting and dog friendly. Opportunity to work closely with engineering, finance, and operations. Mission‑driven organization supporting critical energy infrastructure.
The selected candidate will need to live in close proximity to Rutland, Vermont during the 10 week summer internship program. VELCO does not provide housing or financial housing assistance. Reliable transportation required.
Compensation Range: $15.00 - $18.50 - $22.00/hour. This compensation range represents the minimum, midpoint and maximum pay for this position. Individual offers will be based on various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, education, skills, competencies, and experience. Please note that most offers for new employees fall under the midpoint of the range, allowing room for continued salary growth. Base pay is just one component of our total compensation package, which may also include comprehensive benefits, generous paid time off and incentive compensation (bonus) potential.
