Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic Intern - Test Engineering in Batesburg, SC. The role offers exposure to manufacturing action plans, data systems, and cross‑functional collaboration in a fast‑paced environment.

You will gain hands‑on experience with test equipment, electronics knowledge, and the Hitachi Rail approach to digital transformation and innovation. This paid internship runs May 2027 through August 2027.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering with graduation between Dec 2027 and Dec 2028.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
  • Available to work 40 hours per week onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Implement actions per the manufacturing action plan (audit, failure analysis, improvement).
  • Coordinate test software and data systems with SQL databases and data maintenance.
  • Report issues to R&D and submit forms/markups for documentation updates.
  • Assist analysis to improve test yield and identify root causes.
  • Support technology transfers of test processes across the global supply chain.
  • Define test requirements and create test processes for new products.
  • Implement new test processes and tools per action plans.

We’re looking for eligible students to join Hitachi Rail! Hiring for May 2027 through August 2027.

Accountabilities
  • Ensure the implementation of assigned actions as per the manufacturing action plan (i.e., audit, failure analysis, improvement plan, etc.)
  • Work with internal and external test and IT resources to ensure test software and data systems (based on SQL database server) are operating correctly with data maintenance as required.
  • Communicate issues to R&D department for assigned activities and submit forms and markups for documentation updates.
  • Support analysis and continuous improvement of production test yield, working to identify root cause and propose solutions.
  • Support technology transfers of test processes across the global supply chain.
  • Support definition of test requirements, and test process creation for new products as part of new product introduction team.
  • Ensure the implementation of new test process and tools as per assigned action plans.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft 360 applications – Word, Excel, Teams, etc.
  • Basic understanding software writing and editing experience/skills.
  • Problem anticipation and solving techniques, strong at troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electronics and analyzing electrical schematics.
  • Mechanically oriented, able to use common tools for disassembly & reassembly of various pieces of test equipment.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week onsite
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Previous internships within a manufacturing environment (e.g., printed circuit board manufacturing and assembly, electromechanical assembly, casting, forging, machining, tooling, and fixture design)
  • Experience in NI LabVIEW and Teststand.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Windows based PC hardware and software (98, XP, 7, 10)
  • Networking setup and troubleshooting
Education
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Software, or other appropriate Engineering science disciplines with preference for Electrical Engineering with a graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.
Languages
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
