Job summary

Hitachi Rail STS USA, INC. is seeking eligible students for a May 2027 through August 2027 internship. You will support manufacturing action plans, audits, and failure analyses while collaborating with test and IT resources to ensure data systems operate reliably.

You will gain hands‑on experience in test processes for new products and participate in global technology transfers, reporting to R&D as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with graduation between Dec 2027 and Dec 2028.
  • Preference for Electrical Engineering background.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing action plans including audits, failure analysis and improvements.
  • Coordinate with test/IT resources to ensure test software and data systems operate correctly.
  • Report issues to R&D and update documentation accordingly.
  • Assist in improving production test yield by identifying root causes and proposing solutions.
  • Contribute to technology transfers of test processes across the global supply chain.
  • Help define test requirements and create test processes for new products.

Accountabilities
  • Ensure the implementation of assigned actions as per the manufacturing action plan (i.e., audit, failure analysis, improvement plan, etc.)
  • Work with internal and external test and IT resources to ensure test software and data systems (based on SQL database server) are operating correctly with data maintenance as required.
  • Communicate issues to R&D department for assigned activities and submit forms and markups for documentation updates.
  • Support analysis and continuous improvement of production test yield, working to identify root cause and propose solutions.
  • Support technology transfers of test processes across the global supply chain.
  • Support definition of test requirements, and test process creation for new products as part of new product introduction team.
  • Ensure the implementation of new test process and tools as per assigned action plans.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft 360 applications - Word, Excel, Teams, etc.
  • Basic understanding software writing and editing experience/skills.
  • Problem anticipation and solving techniques, strong at troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electronics and analyzing electrical schematics.
  • Mechanically oriented, able to use common tools for disassembly & reassembly of various pieces of test equipment.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week onsite
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Previous internships within a manufacturing environment (e.g., printed circuit board manufacturing and assembly, electromechanical assembly, casting, forging, machining, tooling, and fixture design)
  • Experience in NI LabVIEW and Teststand.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Windows based PC hardware and software (98, XP, 7, 10) Networking setup and troubleshooting
Education

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Software, or other appropriate Engineering science disciplines with preference for Electrical Engineering with a graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.

Languages

Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
