Job summary

Great West Casualty Company invites students to join our IT Systems Development team as an intern in South Sioux City, Nebraska. You will gain hands-on experience on meaningful projects and learn industry best practices from experienced developers to prepare for a successful technology career.

You’ll work with Java and analytics development, Agile and TDD practices, and contribute to design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software solutions while receiving mentorship and building

Qualifications

• Enrolled at an accredited college or university.
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in CS, software engineering, comp engineering, information systems, or related field.
• Completed at least one object-oriented programming or analytics course.
• Strong desire to learn and grow in a software development environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Reliable, dependable, and committed to meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Learn Agile and Test-Driven Development (TDD) methodologies.
• Gain experience with IDEs, code repositories, and other technologies used for Java and analytics development.
• Work alongside Systems Developers to create efficient, maintainable, and secure application code, queries, reports, and dashboards.
• Assist with designing and writing unit tests to validate application functionality and improve code quality.
• Participate in software testing activities and collaborate with QA teams.
• Engage in development team activities, including code reviews, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and product demonstrations.
• Help maintain project and system documentation.
• Explore emerging technologies and industry trends.
