Job summary

raSmith in Brookfield, WI is seeking a Summer Intern in the Survey Services Division to gain practical engineering experience under seasoned project managers, engineers and technicians through on-the-job training on real projects.

The internship focuses on field work, data collection, and drafting in AutoCAD Civil3D, with exposure to preparing survey documents such as ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey, Plat of Survey, Certified Survey Maps and topographic maps.

Qualifications

• Be enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Geospatial program (or demonstrate a strong interest in geospatial studies) at a U.S. accredited college or university, with coursework in civil engineering.
• Have technical skills to include exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office products
• Able to solve basic engineering problems; good decision-making skills
• Skilled at planning by accurately scoping out length and difficulty of tasks and projects
• Have excellent communication, detail orientation, interpersonal skills, and be a team player

Responsibilities

• Working in the field as part of a two-person survey field crew
• Use and become familiar with our equipment, data collection procedures and work methods
• Assisting in preparing survey documents including ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey, Plat of Survey, Certified Survey Maps, topographic maps, Transportation Plats, Condominium Plats, Subdivision Plats, legal descriptions and other survey exhibits

We currently have an opening for a student to fill a summer 2027 intern position at our Brookfield, WI office (approximately 10 miles west of downtown Milwaukee). We are looking for students with an interest in gaining practical engineering experience from experienced project managers, engineers and technicians through on-the-job training on real projects. During this time, you will be encouraged to hone your problem-solving abilities and develop technical skills.
