Job summary

South Dakota Public Broadcasting in Sioux Falls is seeking a Journalism Intern for Fall session (September–December). Interns perform duties of entry-level multimedia reporters, covering news on air, online, and by phone, and write for broadcast and web.

You will gain experience producing and editing audio/video with Adobe Audition or Final Cut Pro, participate in live Q&A interviews, host segments as skill allows, and work up to 20 hours per week while enrolled as a student.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time of application.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference may be given to junior/senior standing, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Position Title: Journalism Intern

Location: Sioux Falls, SD

Minimum Salary: $18.83/hour

Intern Reporters will learn and perform duties equal to those of an entry‑level professional multi‑media reporter in a public radio/public media environment. Interns cover and report a variety of news stories in person, over the internet, or by phone; write for broadcast and for web (sdpb.org/news); gain experience producing and editing audio and/or video for broadcast and web using Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, or other similar software.

Successful applicants will participate in live unscripted question/answer interviews with the show host, host live news programs as skill level allows, and may be assigned to work with professional radio, TV producers or reporters. They will exercise basic news judgment and perform other duties as assigned. Spring and Fall interns work up to 20 hours per week as schedule allows.

Applicants must have basic proficiency in Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, or other digital linear audio and video editing software. Ability to operate basic recording equipment, video and still camera equipment, and possess news reporting skills are required.

Applicants must be a current part‑time or full‑time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in an upcoming semester or the immediately preceding semester.
