Job summary

Dominion Energy offers an engineering internship in its Renewable Energy group. You will analyze solar site performance across a large fleet and produce high-quality results within tight timeframes.

Some tasks include technical writing, presentations, and occasional site visits to learn the role and assist staff. Ideal candidates are enrolled in a 4-year ABET-accredited program, expect to graduate spring 2028 or later, and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher, with Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Qualifications

  • This internship requires solid engineering skills and the ability to analyze data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and data visualization tools is expected.
  • Strong written and oral communication, including technical writing, is required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to meet deadlines.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher and ABET-accredited program enrollment are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to the Renewable Energy group’s solar fleet analysis.
  • Analyze site performance and identify opportunities to improve production.
  • Prepare presentations and speak with employees and leaders as needed.
  • Periodically visit solar sites and support staff in troubleshooting problems.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Job Summary

This engineering internship position will provide direct support to the Dominion Energy Power Generation Renewable Energy group.

This group manages Dominion’s entire solar fleet totaling more than 2,500 megawatts in 10 states. This position utilizes engineering fundamentals to analyze site performance and identify opportunities across our fleet to improve production.

Candidates should be accustomed to verifying their results and producing high quality work within a short timeframe. In addition to engineering analyses, some of the assignments may require technical writing, preparing presentations and speaking in front of other employees and leaders.

It will be necessary to periodically work outside and visit solar sites to initially learn the role and support the technical staff in troubleshooting problems.

  • Solid engineering skills commensurate with grade level.
  • Understanding of fundamental theories and principles.
  • Good understanding or ability to learn various computer application skills including Microsoft Office products, Tableau, Alteryx and PI systems
  • Strong oral, interpersonal and written communication skills including technical writing.
  • Self-motivator who is comfortable with working independently but also has the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
  • Comfortable with learning how to interpret technical literature such as national codes, regulations and policies.
  • Comfortable with updating technical standards and material specifications.
  • Good professional ethics.
  • Valid driver's license.
Education Requirements
  • Enrolled in a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET.
  • Students should have a graduation date of spring 2028 or later.
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA or greater.
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.

Hourly Rate:

$23.00 - $29.00

The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
