  • Must be in good academic standing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment to support plant operations.
  • Use CMMS to manage work orders and spare parts inventory.
  • Support environmental, health and safety stewardship.
  • Aid in developing maintenance procedures for safe operation.

Job description

Overview

The Maintenance Intern will assist with installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, overhauling, diagnosing, testing and maintaining all power plant and auxiliary equipment and systems. Provides environmental and safety stewardship. Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures. Assists in maintaining all equipment in optimum operating condition. Assist in reviewing maintenance procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:

  • Assist in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining all mechanical equipment as required to support plant operations and optimize equipment value.
  • Uses Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to maintain and control work order system spare parts inventory.
  • Practices environmental and safety stewardship.
  • Assists in equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions.
  • Assists as needed in the development of maintenance procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
  • Adherence to all Safety, Environmental and Plant procedures.
  • Assists in requisitioning parts and supplies.
  • Performs other duties, including non-core responsibilities as directed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Participates in regular safety meetings.
  • Performs housekeeping activities as required.

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in a two or four-year mechanical technical degree program, mechanical engineering degree program or equivalent Required.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • MUST be available for a 13 week program beginning in Late- May to Early-August
Certification/Licensure:

N/A

Knowledge of:
  • Power plant or related industry equipment, systems, and drawings.
  • Safe operating and maintenance procedures / practices.
  • Safety, health and environmental hazards associated with rotating equipment and power plant processes.
  • Steam power plant operations and mechanical equipment maintenance and a working knowledge of the steam cycle and auxiliary systems.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Skills, abilities and physical requirements:
  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Work in close quarters.
    • Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment.
    • Must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift.
    • Comfortable working on grated flooring
    • Don and wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.

Compensation and Benefits

At Prairie State, the base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $25.00 per hour for the Undergraduate level and $28.00 per hour for the Graduate level.
