Job summary

Torev Motors in Arlington, VA is seeking an Intern - Mechanical Engineering (Fall 2026). This role supports the design, fabrication, and testing of prototype components and high-performance electric machines, collaborating closely with the engineering team in a fast-paced startup setting.

The Role

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will support the design, fabrication, and testing of prototype components, motors, and test systems across a range of R&D projects. You will work closely with the engineering team to help build out our early-stage lab capabilities while contributing directly to the development of high-performance electric machines. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys building, testing, and learning quickly in a fast-paced startup environment.

What You’ll Do

Under the supervision and guidance of Torev engineering staff, you will:

  • Design and fabricate mechanical components for prototyping and testing.
  • Perform structural and thermal simulations.
  • Support component- and system-level testing activities.
  • Document processes, methods, and results for internal use.
  • Assist in the establishment of internal fabrication and testing equipment and processes.
What We’re Looking For
Basic Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Fusion 360).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design, fabrication, and testing principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication tools (manual machining, 3D printing, etc.).
  • Exposure to FEA or thermal simulation tools.
  • Experience working on engineering projects or in a lab environment.
  • Interest in electric machines, automotive, or aerospace systems.
Compensation
  • Competitive hourly pay.
Location
Dates and Time Commitment
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Start Date: Mid-August.
  • End Date: Mid-December.
