Job summary

Orange County Transportation Authority is offering a College Intern position in the Measure M2 Program Management Office. The intern will support day-to-day activities, analyze progress, prepare documents, and help coordinate with multiple departments to ensure delivery of M2 projects to voters.

The internship is year-round, paid, and approx. 20 hours per week with mentorship and career counseling. Open to enrolled college students pursuing related degrees, with a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university.
  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in transportation planning, public administration, engineering, urban planning, public policy, or related field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Interest in transportation funding, public infrastructure, program management, and capital program delivery.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment with varying deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze monthly Project Controls progress reports and prepare a snapshot-view matrix with updated costs, schedules, status, and forecasts for M2 projects.
  • Research and prepare project updates for inclusion in M2 Quarterly Reports and other collateral materials.
  • Assist with record retention through monitoring and populating the M2 Document Center.
  • Ensure accuracy of content on M2 website and prepare materials for M2 Program Management Committee.
  • Collaborate with GIS to update status on maps for M2 projects and programs.
  • Track emerging sales tax measure activity and developments relevant to the M2 Program.

Job description

College Intern – Measure M2 Program Management Office (PMO)

OCTA is seeking a motivated student to support the successful completion of day‑to‑day activities in the M2 PMO. The intern will support the mission of ensuring M2 projects and programs are delivered as promised to Orange County voters. They assist section staff with analyzing program progress, preparing documents and reports, coordinating with other departments on various deliverables, and maintaining/archiving program records.

Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of professional entry‑level duties related to your major field of study and the sponsoring department’s current business operations. As a College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA’s career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation’s many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking.

OCTA’s College Intern Program is a year‑round paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of a transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision‑making skills as you gain valuable work experience. You will also work with a mentor and benefit from career counseling.

The pay range is from $20.00 - $23.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. The work schedule will consist of approximately 20 hours a week, not to exceed 1,000 hours within a continuous 12‑month period.

What We’re Looking For
  • Currently enrolled full‑time college student (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) at an accredited two‑ or four‑year college or university
  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Transportation Planning, Public Administration, Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
