INTERN JOB SUMMARY

As part of the Orion Engineers + Constructors Internship Program, the INTERN position is a temporary, short‑term opportunity designed to provide students and recent graduates with valuable on‑the‑job training and professional experience. Interns will be exposed to a variety of work assignments, projects, and activities across different departments, including engineering, construction integration, design, HR, accounting, and other support functions.

Under the guidance of a Department Manager or designated Orion personnel, interns will perform entry‑level tasks while developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success in a professional environment. This role offers hands‑on experience and practical learning opportunities, preparing interns for future career growth within the industry.

Intern Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Supervision & Guidance Works under the direction of the assigned Department Manager or designated department personnel. Shadows staff members to gain insight into department‑specific methods, processes, and best practices.
• Professional Development Brings enthusiasm and a willingness to learn to the workplace each day. Develops a working knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and practices relevant to the assigned department.
• Administrative & Project Support Assists with various administrative tasks, such as document management, preparing reports, taking meeting minutes, and maintaining records. Supports project or program organization, including scheduling, data entry, and other clerical duties as assigned.
• Technical & Departmental Assistance Aids in the implementation and use of department‑specific software or tools (e.g., HRIS, accounting software, project management platforms, design software). Assists with drafting, data analysis, research, or other department‑specific tasks as appropriate. Participates in the preparation, review, and organization of department documents and materials.
• Task Completion & Compliance Ensures assigned tasks and obligations are completed accurately and on time. Follows all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, confidentiality, and data integrity. Opportunity to complete an assigned project through collaborative efforts with other intern disciplines to present to each assigned office management team.
• Training & Learning Participates in on‑the‑job training programs and learning opportunities as assigned. Seeks feedback and applies guidance to improve skills and performance.
• Other Assigned Duties Performs other related duties as assigned by management to support departmental goals and projects. Management/Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Normal business office environment with moderate noise. The position typically performs tasks within assigned office facility. Dependent upon Management review and approval, occasionally, could visit an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. For site visits, safety glasses and other safety equipment are required depending on task. Orion will provide all personnel with standard safety equipment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Dependent upon Management review and approval, occasionally, could participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard. Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder or up and down stairs. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

Position Working Hours and Schedule

Student Interns will not normally be requested or allowed to work more than 29 hours per week; however, they may work up to 40 hours per week during summer, holiday, and semester breaks.

Skills & Qualifications

• Demonstrated initiative and the ability to contribute both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; familiarity with department‑specific software is helpful (e.g., AutoCAD for engineering/design, HRIS/accounting software for support roles).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow company policies, procedures, and processes.
• Ability to understand and apply relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and compliance requirements as needed for the assigned department (e.g., HR, accounting, safety).
• Strong organizational skills; goal‑driven and self‑motivated with a commitment to high‑quality work.
• Analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.
• Dependable, punctual, and maintains a strong attendance record.

Education Requirements

• Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Master of Science Degree in related field.
• Enrollment as a full or part‑time degree‑seeking student in a post‑secondary educational institution.

Experience Requirements

• No previous work experience is required but can be beneficial dependent upon the discipline.
