Our Field Engineer position provides an opportunity for early-career construction professionals to gain hands‑on experience working alongside experienced project managers, engineers, superintendents, and craft professionals on challenging marine and heavy civil construction projects.
This position is based in Houston, Texas, with travel required to project sites based on business and project needs.
This position is an entry level position accountable for providing field engineering project support to Orion. This includes inspection of project materials to be used and providing work control guidelines required for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials by craft workers. The incumbent will typically work closely with the Project Manager, Project Superintendent, Project Engineer, Safety Representative, and other skilled or semi-skilled craft persons on the jobsite to ensure successful project completion and close out.
The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, most importantly with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.
This position is based in Houston, Texas, and requires the ability and willingness to travel to project sites as assigned. Project assignments may require extended travel and temporary relocation depending on project needs.
A B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience is required. Prior hands‑on work experience in the marine construction industry as a Summer Intern or Co‑op Engineer is preferred but not required. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of Project Management & Administration, Marine Construction, Materials Procurement, Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Engineering & Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance.
The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of the business; be an effective communicator; and interface well with employees at all levels of the organization.
The incumbent must be willing and able to travel to project locations as required. Travel requirements will vary based on project assignments and may include extended assignments away from the Houston area.

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management including corporate.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
