Responsibilities

  • Assist with troubleshooting all field instrumentation and control systems equipment failures.
  • Provide input on required services including problem resolution, calibration and tuning of field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating and maintaining all electrical pumps, motors, relays and I/C equipment to support plant operations and optimize equipment value.
  • Use CMMS to maintain and control work order system and spare parts inventory.
  • Practice environmental and safety stewardship.
  • Assist in equipment or system problem identification and recommend solutions.
  • Assist in reviewing maintenance procedures for electrical and I/C equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Adhere to all Safety, Environmental and Plant procedures.
  • Assist in requisitioning parts and supplies.
  • Perform other duties including preventative and predictive maintenance activities.

Job description

Overview

The Electrical, Instrumentation/Controls Intern assists with installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, modifying, overhauling, diagnosing, testing and maintaining all power plant and auxiliary equipment, to include power distribution systems, pumps, motors, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and the Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Provides environmental and safety stewardship. Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures. Assists in maintaining all equipment in optimum operating condition. Assists in developing procedures for plant and equipment monitoring systems to ensure consistent and environmentally compliant operations.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist’s with troubleshooting all field instrumentation and control systems equipment failures.
  • Provides input on required services including but are not limited to problem resolution, calibration and tuning of field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Assist’s in troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating and maintaining all electrical pumps, motors, relays and I/C equipment as required to support plant operations and optimize equipment value.
  • Uses computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to maintain and control work order system and spare parts inventory.
  • Practices environmental and safety stewardship.
  • Assists in equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions.
  • Assist in the reviews of maintenance procedures for electrical and I/C equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
  • Adherence to all Safety, Environmental and Plant procedures.
  • Assists in requisitioning parts and supplies.
  • Performs other duties, including non-core responsibilities as directed including preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Participates in regular safety meetings.
  • Performs housekeeping activities as required

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in a two or four-year technical degree in Electrical / Technology program, electrical engineering or equivalent required.

Certification/Licensure:

N/A

Knowledge of:

  • Power plant electrical, instrumentation and controls equipment, systems, and drawings.
  • Emerson Ovation, Foxboro, or ABB.
  • DCS field in areas such as configuration, HMI graphic development and troubleshooting.
  • 13,800V, 4,160V, and 480V electrical generation, distribution and motor controls.
  • Safe maintenance procedures / practices.
  • Safety, health and environmental hazards associated with the production of electricity.
  • Steam power plant operations and maintenance including mechanical maintenance, instrument and electrical systems, and a working knowledge of the steam cycle.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skills, abilities and physical requirements:

  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Work in close quarters
  • Work from elevated positions; walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and offof equipment.
  • Must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift.
  • Don and wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.

Compensation and Benefits:

At Prairie State, the base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $25.00 per hour Undergraduate level and $28.00 per hour Graduate level.
