Job summary

Allied Mineral Products in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking an Intern - Design Engineering (Summer 2027) to support the Sales engineering tasks with design analysis, calculations, drawings, BOMs, and technical reports. Training on the Refractory Industry and product knowledge will be provided.

You will use AutoDesk Inventor to draft simple pre-cast shapes, convert 3D models to 2D drawings, and assist production with FAI and DFM adjustments.

Qualifications

• Engineering student or AS degree in engineering with relevant coursework.
• CAD skills including 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting.
• Ability to read detailed drawings.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We are currently seeking an Intern - Design Engineering (Summer 2027). This role will provide engineering support for the Allied Sales organization; both domestic and international. This will include facilitating the preparation of quotations and proposals using design analysis, methodology assessment, engineering calculations, thermal analysis, drawings, bills of materials, and technical reports. Training on the Refractory Industry and product knowledge will be given.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Utilize AutoDesk Inventor CAD package to complete simple designs of Pre-cast Refractory ‘Shapes’.
• Convert colleague's 3D Models to 2D Drawings
• Use the design (or your department colleagues) to; calculate volume estimates to determine material requirements (BOM), create 2D drawings for both internal and customer's needs, perform thermal analysis and sometimes other engineering related documents.
• Support Production in the Pre-Cast Shapes department, for example, First Article Inspection (FAI) or DFM adjustments to simplify tooling or manufacturing.
• Prepare graphic documents for Engineering presentations for inside seminars, meetings, Sales Conferences and for outside presentation of Engineering proposals.
• Special project or studies to increase the efficiencies of the department.

Qualifications

• Started a degree in an Engineering (mechanical, civil, or aerospace) or other similar technical field is preferred, or an Associate of Science degree in an engineering field will be considered with appropriate coursework and experience.
• CAD skills, including proficiency with 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting.
• Ability to read and understand detailed drawings.
• Good written and verbal communications skills.
