Job summary

Grain & Protein Technologies is seeking a Design Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 in Assumption, IL. This is a paid, full-time internship onsite for 40 hours per week, with May 26 to July 30 dates (subject to housing).

You will design components using CAD, publish drawings, and collaborate with engineering and product teams to meet requirements and cost targets, while supporting manufacturing and prototype work onsite.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a degree program in design engineering, agricultural engineering, or related field.
• Must be registered as a full-time student.
• Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (Solidworks, Inventor, Creo).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently on multiple projects.
• Prior internships or part-time work experience is preferred.
• Experience in agricultural/manufacturing settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Utilize 3D and 2D CAD tools to design new and update existing components.
• Publish and revise drawings and bills of material through engineering release processes.
• Collaborate with Engineering Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and Product Manager on requirements and cost targets.
• Engage with manufacturing to apply Design For Manufacturing principles.
• Mitigate production issues with engineering and product managers.
• Support Tech Services with field issue troubleshooting and product maintenance.
• Collaborate with R&T to build prototype designs.

Job description

We are seeking a highly talented Design Engineering Intern to join our Grain Storage and Conditioning team in Assumption, ILfor the Summer of 2027.

This is a paid, full-time internship during the summer. Students are required to work 40 hours per week onsite in Assumption, IL from tentatively Wednesday, May 26th through Friday, July 30th (dependent upon summer housing dates, could start earlier and/or end later).

Your Impact

• Utilize 3D and 2D CAD tools to design new and update existing components
• Execute engineering release processes to publish and revise drawings and bills of material
• Communicate with Engineering Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and Product Manager to understand and verify product requirements and cost targets

• Engage with manufacturing team to gather inputs and integrate Design For Manufacturing (DFM) principles into product designs
• Mitigate production issues through engineering and product managers
• Support the Tech Services team with troubleshooting field issues
• Support current product maintenance and updates per stakeholder requests
• Collaborate with R&T to build prototype designs

Your Experience and Qualifications

• Enrollment in a degree program in design engineering, agricultural engineering, or related field
• Must be registered as a full-time student
• Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as Solidworks, Inventor, or Creo
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Preferably have completed one or more internships and/or have working experience (e.g. part time job)
• Prior experience in an agricultural and/or manufacturing setting is a plus

Your Compensation and Benefits

Expected hourly wage for this role will be $20 – 22 / hour. This is dependent upon year in school.

Benefits will include complimentary housing at The Woods apartment complex at Millikin University in Decatur, IL, approximately 30 minutes from the internship location.
