The State of South Dakota's Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Investigation, invites qualified students to join the Summer Internship – DCI Forensic Lab in Pierre. You will gain hands-on exposure to forensic processes in a laboratory setting and may observe evidence handling and analysis.

Students must be enrolled, may be part-time or full-time, and should have completed at least one year of study.

Qualifikationen

• Must be enrolled as a current part-time or full-time student for the upcoming semester or the immediately preceding semester.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
• Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation; an arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment; drug screening upon offer.

Requirements

• APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description

The intern will assist in numerous assigned projects that may include cataloging evidence, chemicals, or other property for storage or disposal; observe evidence collection and examination in various disciplines within the lab setting or in the field; participate in various training exercise, classes, or other laboratory projects and activities as assigned. This opportunity may assist lab staff in evaluating case information, or other data needed for strategic planning. Observation of examiners in various disciplines to include firearms analysis, biology, fingerprint, or trace analysis is likely.

Qualifications

Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
