Job summary

The Cultural Activities Coordinator Intern will work under the supervision of the Cultural Activities Coordinator to assist with the planning and coordination of cultural and religious programming for inmates within the correctional facility located in Sioux Falls, SD Jameson Prison Annex.

This internship provides hands-on exposure to correctional management practices, with operational support tasks and a background in personnel and program operations as part of professional development.

Qualifications

• APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.

Responsibilities

• The Cultural Activities Coordinator Intern will work under the supervision of the Cultural Activities Coordinator to assist with the planning and coordination of cultural and religious programming for inmates within the correctional facility.
• This role will also provide support with routine operational tasks in a secure correctional environment, offering the intern an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and exposure to correctional management practices.
• Shadow staff and participate in team activities to build effective working relationships with employees and agency representatives.
• Assist with gathering information for investigations under supervision.
• Learn about custody and security requirements and help with basic documentation or resource tracking.
