Langan Engineering & Environmental Services is seeking an Intern/Co-op - Environmental to join its San Francisco and San Jose teams. You will assist with environmental aspects of land development projects, gaining exposure to feasibility studies, fieldwork, and report preparation.

Responsibilities include logging borings, collecting samples, preparing logs and dailies, and learning GIS/data modeling tools under supervision. Hybrid work options in CA are available.

Qualifications

Job Summary

Langan is seeking an Intern/Co‑op - Environmental to join its collaborative team in San Francisco and San Jose, CA. This individual will serve a key function in providing assistance with environmental‑related technical aspects of diverse land development projects, both small and large scale. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner directly with environmental leadership and gain exposure to site feasibility studies which may involve field work, technical report preparation and calculations, pre‑construction conditions documentation, design plans and specifications.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations by logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests and collecting and recording data;
• Monitor construction projects by taking various tests to evaluate whether the contractor or subcontractor has complied with job specifications;
• Identify solutions to field and/or laboratory problems and accurately document results;
• Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results;
• Prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs).
• Learn data management and modeling tools for environmental media, how to perform engineering analyses, and how to properly use field equipment;
• Conduct; file reviews, site reconnaissance, and prepares reports;
• Prepare laboratory data summary tables and figures;
• Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects;
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Student actively pursuing a four year or advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology;
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
• Working knowledge of GIS or environmentally related software, and Microsoft Office Suite applications;
• Travel may be required based on business needs and Project assignments. Travel requirements may vary by position and may change based on business needs;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities; and
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.

Preference will be given to students who are currently in their Jr. or Sr. year or to students pursuing their MS degree.
