Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services is seeking an Intern/Co-op - Environmental to join its collaborative team in Santa Barbara, CA. This role supports environmental-related technical aspects of land development projects, with exposure to site feasibility studies, field work, and report preparation.

The position offers hands-on field experience, data collection, and analysis while you work with environmental leadership to gain insights into site investigations, planning, and design

Qualifications

• Pursuing a four year or advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and judgment capabilities; detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and execution of field investigations by logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests and collecting and recording data;
• Monitor construction projects by testing to evaluate whether the contractor or subcontractor has complied with job specifications;
• Identify solutions to field and/or laboratory problems and accurately document results;
• Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results;
• Prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs).
• Learn data management and modeling tools for environmental media, how to perform engineering analyses, and how to properly use field equipment;
• Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and prepares reports;
• Prepare laboratory data summary tables and figures;
• Assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects;
• Performs other duties as requested.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking an Intern/Co-op - Environmental to join its collaborative team in Santa Barbara, CA. This individual will serve a key function in providing assistance with environmental-related technical aspects of diverse land development projects, both small and large scale. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner directly with environmental leadership and gain exposure to site feasibility studies which may involve field work, technical report preparation and calculations, pre-construction conditions documentation, design plans and specifications.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations by logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests and collecting and recording data;
• Monitor construction projects by taking various tests to evaluate whether the contractor or subcontractor has complied with job specifications;
• Identify solutions to field and/or laboratory problems and accurately document results;
• Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results;
• Prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs).
• Learn data management and modeling tools for environmental media, how to perform engineering analyses, and how to properly use field equipment;
• Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and prepares reports;
• Prepare laboratory data summary tables and figures;
• Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects;
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Student actively pursuing a four year or advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology;
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
• Working knowledge of GIS or environmentally related software, and Microsoft Office Suite applications;
• Travel may be required based on business needs and project assignments. Travel requirements may vary by position and may change based on business needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities; and
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.

Preference will be given to students who are currently in their Jr. or Sr. year or to students pursuing their MS degree.

Pay Range

$25—$32 USD

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
