Job description

Why Join Q2?

Q2 is a leading provider of digital banking and lending solutions to banks, credit unions, alternative finance companies, and fintechs in the U.S. and internationally. Our mission is simple: build strong and diverse communities through innovative financial technology—and we do that by empowering our people to help create success for our customers.

What Makes Q2 Special?

Being as passionate about our people as we are about our mission. We celebrate our employees in many ways through our year-round Q2 ChangeMakers awards program and global moments of recognition and connection. We invest in the growth and development of our team members through ongoing learning opportunities, internal mobility, and meaningful leadership relationships.

We also know that nothing builds trust and collaboration like having fun and giving back together. From company-wide volunteer days to events like our Q2 Homecoming Week—featuring learning, community service, and culture-building experiences—we create opportunities to connect, grow, and make an impact.

The Team

The Risk & Fraud team at Q2 is responsible for helping our customers take a proactive stance against fraud and managing the risks of their business. We build and enhance products that evolve with the ever-changing fraud landscape, delivering tangible value for our customers. Our solutions enable them to focus more of their time and energy on their mission: best serving their customers and communities.

The Role

As a Software Engineer on the Risk & Fraud team, you will be embedded on a team building production systems that directly impact our customers' ability to detect and prevent fraud. You'll work across the stack — designing and implementing services, APIs, and the data infrastructure that powers our fraud models, agents, and user-facing products. You'll take ownership of systems end-to-end, work cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and engineers, and bring strong engineering fundamentals to a domain where reliability and correctness genuinely matter.

Key responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and test software solutions with a focus on high availability and resiliency
  • Build and operate scalable data workflows, including data pipelines, transformations and integrations with our data platform, that support fraud analytics and machine learning models
  • Work across the stack as needed — from data layers to APIs to front-end integrations
  • Own your systems end-to-end: delivery, monitoring, incident response, and iteration
  • Partner with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to translate fraud and risk requirements into scalable solutions
  • Ensure adherence to all security, confidentiality and privacy policies and controls.
  • Assist and mentor teammates to provide technical leadership and evangelize best practices
You are more likely to excel in the role if you:
  • Enjoy autonomy in your work and feel a sense of ownership in the team’s goals.
  • You work quickly but with the big picture in mind.
  • Have empathy for the end user and a desire to measure your work by both the customer value and technical quality.
Requirements Must haves
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in relevant field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree; or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in Python — well-tested, maintainable, scalable code
  • Proficiency in SQL and comfort with relational and/or analytical data stores
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern framework (Vue.js or similar)
  • Experience implementing and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience building applications using a cloud-native, service-oriented architecture
Nice to Have
  • Experience with data pipeline tools (airflow, dbt) or cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS data services)
  • Exposure to data modeling, transformation, or orchestration concepts
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or infrastructure as code

Mission

Q2’s mission is to build strong and diverse communities by strengthening their financial institutions. That mission shapes the technology we build, how we serve our customers, and how we show up for each other.

Vision

We started with a straightforward belief: technology could fundamentally change how financial institutions serve their communities. More than 20 years later, that belief still drives us. Q2 delivers digital banking and lending solutions that help financial institutions deepen relationships, improve experiences, and grow.

Culture & Values

Q2’s culture is built by Q2ers and grounded in ten guiding principles that define how we show up for each other, our customers, and our communities. We take our mission seriously. We also have fun doing it. Teams across the company work together to solve hard problems, move quickly, and make a real impact on the financial institutions and communities we serve.
