The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Police Trainee is responsible for completing the CMPD Academy and passing the Basic Law Enforcement Training to become certified sworn law enforcement providing protection, policing, patrolling, and investigation. Police Trainees participate in a structured training and certification program and perform entry-level law enforcement work under close supervision.
Applicants applying for Intermediate Police Trainee must have completed a North Carolina (NC) Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program within the past 12 months OR currently possess an active NC Law Enforcement Certification issued by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and not currently meet the qualifications for our Lateral Police Trainee position.
Note: This program is not available to applicants with out-of-state certification.
Selected Intermediate applicants must successfully complete a 10-week Academy, followed by a 15-week PTO training course. This allows qualified applicants who have already completed a BLET to bypass the full 26-week academy and repeat BLET.
Positions require physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions.
