Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources seeks Forestry Specialist fill multiple positions across the state. Vacancies exist in Backus, Bagley, Big Falls, Mora, and Nimrod, with other locations possible as needed. Applicants select preferred site during the process.

Qualifications

• Requires forestry experience or a degree in forestry or closely related field.
• Demonstrates knowledge of dendrology, forest measurements, and timber sales.
• Ability to use GIS, aerial photography, and surveys for mapping and data collection.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate forest stands and apply guidelines to meet resource goals.
• Appraise timber for sale and administer permits and scales.
• Visit stands affected by pests, fire, or disease and plan responses.
• Create GIS maps and analyze air photos to define management boundaries.
• Lead and supervise seasonal staff and emergency hires.
