Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Consultant - Fire and Life Safety Engineer in New York, NY to contribute to multi-site due diligence, design, and verification of fire protection systems. You will interpret building and fire codes (ICC/NFPA, IBC, NFPA 101), review drawings, and collaborate with authorities and clients to deliver safe, compliant building solutions across public and private sectors.

Ideal candidates have a mechanical engineering background, 1–3 years of relevant experience, and

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
1–3 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior fire and life safety design experience.
Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.

Responsibilities

Interpret building code, life safety, and fire code requirements (ICC/NFPA; IBC; NFPA 101).
Review architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements.
Negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
Produce fire safety strategy documents to inform building form throughout the design process.
Design fire protection and life safety systems (sprinklers, alarms, smoke management, egress).
Carry out fire engineering calculations and evacuation analyses.
Assist in commissioning of fire protection systems and interface with clients.
