Job summary

New Mexico State University in Las Cruces seeks an Accountant Intermediate to join the PSL Accounting Office. The role supports contract accounting, labor rate setup, and monthly reconciliations while coordinating with PI’s and internal teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with related experience and can prepare budgets, journals, and reports for sponsored projects in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree with 2 years of relevant accounting experience or a Bachelor's degree.
• Preferred: Bachelor's in Accounting or Bachelor’s with at least 12 ACCT credits.
• Preferred: One year of professional accounting experience related to the duties.

Responsibilities

• Reads and analyzes contracts to ensure proper accounting of expenses.
• Liaison with RAS to address language/terms concerns for PSL.
• Assists in establishing labor rates and activity codes for Time and Material contracts.
• Reconciles all contracts monthly, including labor distributions and spending.
• Prepares journal vouchers and electronic labor redistributions.
• Reviews spending and notifies PIs of potential problems.
• Assists in setup of new funds and index numbers as required.
• Provides SPA with required reports and invoicing information.
• Verifies and approves POs, Pcard expenses, and Direct Pays for contracts.
• Prepares budgets for new contract proposals.
• Reconciles payroll clearing accounts and leave balances.
• Reconciles quarterly CLC clearing accounts and books indirect charges.
• Assists in audits with Main Campus Auditing.
