Job summary

WSP in the U.S. is seeking an Intermediate Construction Materials Engineer for its Charlotte, NC or Asheville, NC locations. Job Description

WSP’s Construction Materials Team is growing and we have an opportunity for a Intermediate Construction Materials Engineer to support our Charlotte, NC or Asheville, NC location. This role will involve challenging projects with our Earth & Environment Team and provide professional career development.

Your Impact
  • Perform testing and special inspections related to soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry on general building sites and facilities
  • Interpret and monitor work procedures as per project plans and specifications for compliance with project requirements
  • Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites
  • Prepare and submit written field reports summarizing daily activities/observations in a timely manner
  • Support project management tasks such as scheduling, reports review, budget tracking, invoicing, proposal writing and business development
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams
  • Work in accordance with company safety policies
  • Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 1-3+ years of Construction Materials Testing experience
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • ACI Field Level I certification (concrete sampling and field testing)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving history
  • Reliability—must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Must pass a physical, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
  • Ability to stoop, kneel and routinely lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for company vehicles
  • Able to work in variable outdoor conditions, including extreme heat or cold
