Job summary

CU Boulder Libraries is seeking an Interlibrary Loan Technician to support the university's ILL and document delivery services using ILLiad and other platforms. The successful candidate will help process daily requests with accuracy and timeliness, coordinating with the Resource Sharing team.

This role reports to the Head of Resource Sharing, works with the Operations Manager, and typically operates Monday–Friday 8:00–5:00 with primarily on-site work.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience OR a combination of related education and experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Experience with interlibrary loan systems.
  • Familiarity with MARC records and bibliographic metadata

Responsibilities

  • Process and fulfill article and chapter requests for ILL lending, borrowing and document delivery.
  • Process physical items for loan and document delivery including offsite storage and campus locations.
  • Lead student employees and supervise them, coordinating and training.

The Libraries department at CU Boulder encourages applications forThe Interlibrary Loan Technician position! The Interlibrary Loan(ILL) Technician plays a critical role in supporting the UniversityLibraries' interlibrary loan and document delivery services. Usingresource sharing and library platforms such as ILLiad, Occam’sReader, Docline, RSCVD and FOLIO, this position ensures theaccurate and timely processing of daily ILL requests and DocumentDelivery services for CU Boulder patrons, as well as for nationaland international libraries. This position reports to the Head ofResource Sharing and works in close collaboration with theOperations Manager and Resource Sharing Section members to supportvarious resource sharing activities as required.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Processes Article Requests for ILL Lending, Borrowing and DocumentDelivery
  • Processes and fulfills article and chapter requests for ILLLending, Borrowing and Document Delivery in a timely manner withattention to detail and accuracy. This includes supervisingincoming requests, and conducting searches in the local catalog andother discovery tools, and verifying articles for accuracy. Thisposition ensures requests are processed efficiently andaccurately.
Processes Physical Items for Loan and Document Delivery
  • Ensures the timely and accurate delivery of all print ILLLending, Borrowing and Document Delivery requests for materialsheld at the PASCAL Offsite Storage Facility and materials held atcampus branch libraries. This requires daily monitoring of requestsas well as follow up with the various locations.
  • Performs searching and retrieving of physical items fromlocations in Norlin Library, some of the items can be large andheavy, up to 30 lbs.
  • Performs shelf checks to ensure accuracy, and search formissing and lost items.
  • Scans chapters and articles using an overhead scanner and amicroform scanner and associated software.
  • Processes items returned by other libraries. Notes damage androutes items accordingly.
Student Lead
  • Along with the Operations Manager, the Lending technicianassists in supervising student employees including coordinating andassigning work, answering questions and training students.
Resource Sharing Services
  • Assists with various resource-sharing initiatives as needed,supporting the broader goals of the Resource Sharing Section.
What You Should Know

The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:00 - 5:00 pm. Flexibleschedule opportunities to shift workday slightly may be possible in discussion with the supervisor. Modality is primarilyon-site.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $43,000 (set based on pay equityand within the 1st quartile). If you have prior state-classifiedexperience in the same class series as this position, your pay maybe set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation relatedto the work assigned to this position OR A combination of relatededucation and/or relevant experience in an occupation related tothe work assigned equal to two (2) years.

What We Would Like You to Have
  • Experience in interlibrary loan or resource-sharingservices.
  • Familiarity with ILLiad or other interlibrary loan managementsystems
  • Experience using scanning equipment and associated software,including overhead and microform scanners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and officeproductivity software
  • Knowledge of MARC records and bibliographic metadata
  • Understanding of library classification systems and searchingstrategies in order to conduct searching of the local catalog anddiscovery tools.
