Aloft AeroArchitects is seeking an Interiors Engineer II to join our Georgetown, DE team. The role supports design, installation, substantiation, and FAA certification of aircraft interior completion projects, working under an Interiors Engineering Lead or Project Engineer.

You will develop deliverables, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and resolve technical issues to ensure compliant, high‑quality interiors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent with a four-year education.
  • 3–8 years of practical work experience in a related role.
  • Minimum 3 years supporting aircraft interior completion programs or STC development.
  • Experience with VIP/VVIP or business aircraft completion programs is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of interior systems, monument design, seating, cabin layouts, and interior integration.
  • Familiarity with FAA certification processes and regulations for transport-category aircraft.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Interiors Engineering activities supporting aircraft interior completion projects (design, installation, substantiation, integration, and certification).
  • Develop and maintain engineering deliverables (drawings, orders, installation documentation) and assist with ICA, compliance, and substantiation reports.
  • Develop and maintain interior designs and solutions for monuments, furnishings, seating, cabin layouts, cabinetry, galleys, lavatories, and related systems.
  • Support integration of interior systems with cabin furnishings and structures.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and external partners; review designs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and designers.

SUMMARY

This position supports the Interiors Engineering activities required for the design, installation, substantiation, integration, and FAA certification of aircraft interior completion projects. The Interiors Engineer II independently performs engineering assignments of moderate complexity and supports larger projects under the direction of an Interiors Engineering Lead or Project Engineer.

The employee in this role is responsible for developing and maintaining engineering deliverables, resolving technical issues, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and supporting aircraft completion activities. The position requires a working knowledge of aircraft interior systems, engineering principles, certification requirements, and company processes, with increasing responsibility for assigned project scopes and technical work packages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute assigned Interiors Engineering activities supporting aircraft interior completion projects, including design, installation, substantiation, integration, and certification.
  • Develop engineering deliverables including drawings, engineering orders, installation documentation, and assist with the development of Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), compliance reports, and substantiation reports, as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain aircraft interior designs and engineering solutions for monuments, furnishings, seating, cabin layouts, partitions, cabinetry, galleys, lavatories, and associated interior systems.
  • Support the integration of aircraft systems with cabin interior furnishings, monuments, liner systems, and other aircraft structures.
  • Apply technical, safety, regulatory, customer, manufacturing, and cost considerations when developing engineering solutions.
  • Perform engineering analysis and technical evaluations necessary to support aircraft interior designs and modifications.
  • Support the development and coordination of certification documentation and compliance activities with the Interiors Engineering Lead and Certification Engineering.
  • Review engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation for accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Identify technical issues, project risks, and opportunities within assigned areas of responsibility and assist in developing effective solutions.
  • Provide engineering support during aircraft completion and installation activities, including investigation and resolution of discrepancies and field issues.
  • Support cross-functional engineering activities involving Interiors, Electrical, Mechanical, Stress, Certification, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and external engineering partners on assigned technical work scopes, including clarification of requirements, review of technical deliverables, and resolution of engineering issues.
  • Participate in customer and internal design reviews, including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Certification Reviews, and Production Reviews.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure assigned engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements and schedules.
  • Maintain compliance with accepted engineering standards and practices, regulatory requirements, department standards, and company procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers regarding technical requirements, design solutions, engineering status, and project issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less-experienced engineers and designers within areas of demonstrated competency.
  • Continue to develop technical knowledge and expertise in aircraft interior design, integration, substantiation, and certification.
  • Complete initial and recurrent training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate time accounting records in accordance with company requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility.

The Interiors Engineer II may provide technical guidance, task support, and mentoring to less‑experienced engineering personnel within areas of demonstrated knowledge and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar from four‑year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-8 years practical work experience in a directly related job role.
  • Minimum 3 years supporting aircraft interior completion programs, aircraft modifications, or Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) development.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting VIP, VVIP, or business aircraft completion programs.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft interior systems, monument design, seating installations, cabin layouts, and interior integration.
  • Experience with FAA certification processes and regulations applicable to transport‑category aircraft.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and to maintain cross‑functional partnerships.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office software and other company and discipline specific software applications.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks CAD systems preferred.
  • Must be detail‑oriented with the ability to multi‑task.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, when needed.

  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex contracts, legal documents, technical documents, engineering drawings, regulations, procedures and manuals.
