Job summary

United States Army Reserve seeks an interior electrician to install and maintain Army interior electrical systems. You will read blueprints, install and test equipment, and inspect power systems to identify faults and perform repairs.

Applicants must meet DoD requirements and complete ASVAB Electronics EL 93; training includes basic combat and advanced individual training, with on‑the‑job instruction.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with electrical concepts, circuits, and safety procedures.
• Ability to read blueprints and wiring plans.
• Comfort with physical work and using hand tools.

Job description

Overview

The interior electrician is primarily responsible for the installation and maintenance for all of the Army’s interior electrical systems.

Job Duties

• Install transformers, junction boxes, circuit breakers, service panels, switches, electrical boxes and lightning rods
• Read blueprints, wire plans and repair orders to determine layouts/repair
• Test equipment for the operational conduction of circuits
• Inspect power distribution systems, shorts in wires and faulty equipment
• Repair and replace faulty wiring and lighting fixtures

Requirements

• Must meet DoD requirements.
• Those who want to serve must first take the ASVAB, a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.

Training

Job training for interior electrician requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field with on-the-job instructions, including on-the-job instruction for installation and repair.
