Job description

Now Hiring: Mid to Senior Level Interior Designer – Northern Virginia

Shape meaningful spaces, lead talented teams, and grow your career at a mid-sized, highly award-winning architecture and interior design studio.

About the Role:

Our client is looking for a mid‑to‑senior level interior designer to join a collaborative, design‑driven studio at their beautiful office in Northern VA. This is not a contract position — you will be an employee of the firm day one.

You’ll help lead projects from concept through construction across a diverse portfolio spanning commercial, workplace, healthcare, education, hospitality, multifamily, senior living, and sports & recreation. Depending on your experience, skillset, and where your interests lie, the role can lean more toward design, more technical, more project management, or a well‑rounded balance of all three — the position will be shaped around your strengths.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design & Documentation: Perform and document design work from concept through construction documentation and construction administration — including RFI responses, sketches, PCO review, site visits, punch lists, and field reports.
  • Revit & BIM: Design and build models in Revit; apply institutional templates and standards to keep production efficient and consistent.
  • Code & Standards Compliance: Maintain the firm’s reputation by adhering to company standards, building codes, and sustainability requirements throughout every phase.
  • Programming & Specification: Conduct programming efforts such as space planning, furniture layout, lighting and color coordination; develop material and finish palettes and specify furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering, and artwork.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with consultants, engineers, and the architecture team to keep deliverables aligned with client needs and project demands.
  • Quality Control: Own QA/QC of your work and your discipline’s work, in both electronic and printed form.
  • Client Presentations: Help prepare and conduct client presentations; estimate material requirements and preliminary costs as needed.
  • Project Oversight: Depending on your track, take on day‑to‑day oversight of project schedule, progress, and milestones, and help manage projects of increasing scale with growing independence.
  • Team Development: Assist in training junior staff on quality design practices and firm standards, and help cultivate a positive team culture.
  • Professional Growth: Stay current through educational opportunities, professional publications, and industry organizations; pursue and maintain relevant certifications.

For those leaning toward a more senior or business‑oriented path, there’s also room to grow into greater budget/profitability ownership, staff mentorship, and business development — building client relationships, tracking market trends, and representing the firm at industry events.

Why You’ll Thrive Here:
  • Join a studio — not an office — built to encourage designers to interact, experiment, and collaborate in an open, high‑design, light‑filled space.
  • Work on meaningful, award‑winning projects across the DC region and beyond, with a client base that’s 80%+ repeat business.
  • Learn continuously through in‑house technical seminars and targeted training on Revit and rendering platforms by the firm’s dedicated BIM Manager.
  • Be part of a genuine people‑first culture — with large‑scale social events thrown throughout the year.
  • Grow with a firm with 40+ years of history, a second generation of leadership, and clear paths to advancement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5‑20+ years of experience at a design consultancy or interiors firm
  • Professionally accredited degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
  • NCIDQ or CID certification preferred
  • LEED, WELL, and/or other sustainability accreditations a plus
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Strong graphic, visualization, communication, and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Fluency in Revit; familiarity with SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhino, and/or Adobe Creative Suite a plus
What They Offer:
  • Competitive Paid Time Off and paid company holidays
  • Retirement plan with employer contributions
  • Professional membership and licensure financial reimbursement
  • Robust in‑house professional development, mentorship programs, and continuous training
  • A hybrid work policy — including a shorter workday on Fridays year‑round (if hours have been hit beforehand)
  • A commitment to reasonable working hours and realistic project timelines, without a culture of routine overtime
  • A team that loves what it does — and has fun doing it
