Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking an Interior Design Manager to support their strategic vision for healing environments. The role involves developing design guidelines, managing budgets, and collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure high-quality design solutions that meet healthcare standards.
Assist the Senior Manager of Interior Design in delivering strategic vision for timeless design solutions that support a healing, healthy environment and define the Montefiore Einstein Brand.
Develop and update comprehensive interior design guidelines annually to ensure product availability, recommend new products, and revise guidelines to meet evolving requirements or regulations.
Create space planning guidelines to standardize workspace sizes based on staff titles, including illustrative examples for typical room sizes and furniture layouts.
Work as a key member of the Design and Construction capital delivery team alongside assigned project management team members.
Prepare high-level estimates, establish and manage budgets, review costs monthly, and analyze potential exposures.
Oversee selection of interior finishes, architectural features, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), including medical equipment and signage, coordinating with external architectural firms, consultants, and vendors.
Provide in-house interior design services and FF&E selection for small projects, including preparing drawings, specifications, reviewing submittals, and monitoring construction and installation.
Ensure design solutions are cost-effective, meet schedule requirements, and maintain high-quality finishes.
Conduct design review meetings at each project stage with Project Management and A/E Teams, reviewing critical submittals as needed.
Prepare design and finish presentation materials as required.
Provide interiors management support to the Project Management Team.
Develop procurement documents, obtain bids and quotes, analyze and compare bids, negotiate pricing, and manage purchase orders and invoice approvals.
Oversee installation of FF&E, medical equipment, signage, and finishes, preparing punch lists and confirming project completion.
Inspect patient areas periodically for furniture replacement, advise on installation matters, and ensure compliance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Required
Understanding of FGI Guidelines, healthcare codes, NYC and NYS building codes, and ADA standards.
Knowledge of design planning, space management, universal/adaptive design in healthcare, LEED, and Healthy Hospitals principles.
Knowledge of interior finish materials, their specifications, environmental impact, and lifecycle.
Principles of customer service, needs assessment, quality standards, and satisfaction evaluation.
Business management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination.
Specialized Skills and Technical Competencies
Proficiency in MS Office, Project, SketchUp, AutoCAD; NCQDI Certification preferred.
Problem Solving
Ability to prioritize, develop/manage budgets and schedules, follow procurement processes, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Manage expectations of project teams, sponsors, and end users, meet deadlines, and uphold design standards.
Working Relationships
Report to Sr. Manager, Interior Design.
Collaborate with internal teams including Project Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Security, Purchasing, Finance, and organizational leadership.
Engage with external partners such as architectural/engineering firms, consultants, manufacturers, and vendors.
Salary Range
USD $70,200 - $78,000 per year.
