Job summary

West Star Aviation Inc. is seeking an Interior Cabinet Technician for the 2nd shift in East Alton, IL. You will fabricate complex wood-surfacd subassemblies and perform cabinet repairs, installations, and modifications for world-class business aircraft.

Expect varied daily tasks assigned by the Team Leader, with an emphasis on quality and compliance. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to work in a fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0–2 years aviation/auto/RV/marine experience for Tech I.
  • 2–4 years for Tech II; 4–6 years for Tech III; 6+ years for Master Tech.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate high quality furniture and wood-subassemblies for aircraft interiors.
  • Perform cabinet removal, installation, modification and fabrication.
  • Maintain shop and tooling; complete daily turnover sheets; ensure safety.
  • Communicate clearly in English and follow supervisor directions.
  • Follow FAA guidelines and safety rules; assist in major modification work as needed.

What you can expect as an Interior Cabinet Technician at West Star:

As an interior cabinet technician you will be fabricating complex high quality furniture and other wood‑surfacd subassemblies for installation in world class business aircraft. Some of the tasks you may be required to complete include parts replacements or repair, basic electrical system installation and general mechanical applications. Modifications, repair, refurbishment and fabrication of aircraft cabinets are the primary functions. Job duties will vary each day and are designated by the Team Leader in charge of that project.

  • Performing general mechanical functions on aircraft cabinets and related systems. This includes items such as removal and installation of cabinets, modification, re-laminating, veneering or fabrication of new cabinets.
  • Ability to perform minor modifications
  • Perform daily turnover sheets
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
  • Cleanliness of shop and surroundings
  • Work independently when required
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Any other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisor or management
Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you: A High school diploma or equivalent

Your Experience
Tech I

0-2 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field. These technicians have very limited to no knowledge of the position. This level requires close supervision and constant check‑ins on work performance.

Tech II

2-4 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field. Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects. Will need general supervision and instructions.

Tech III

4-6 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field. Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects. Limited supervision is required. No instruction needed and can act as a trainer or mentor to other technicians.

Master Tech

6+ years’ experience in aviation interiors. Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job. This technician is a subject matter expert with a wide and comprehensive knowledge of the job.

Your Initiative

We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

Your Sense Of Responsibility

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.

Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.

Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.

Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.

Maintain customer oriented work habits.

Assist in major modification work as needed

Other Particulars
Physical Requirements

Lifts 50 lbs.

Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity.

Standing for long periods of time.

Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas

Mental Requirements

Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc.

Work with others in a professional manner.

Read and comprehend various documents.

Plan and organize procedures and operations.

Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management.

May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Work with minimal supervision when required.

Working Conditions

The majority of work will be performed in a hangar or shop environment.

Work outside on the ramp on occasion.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.

Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.

Computer, copy machine etc.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $20-$35. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi‑annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
