Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on HR operations/generalist experience at manager level or equivalent.
  • Experience working directly with employees and managers in a service-oriented HR environment.
  • ADP experience required; advanced ADP experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting payroll processes and resolving payroll-related issues preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HR administration, employee lifecycle processes, and compliance.

  • Serve as an accessible onsite HR resource for employees and managers, including managing the HR inbox.
  • Manage onboarding, offboarding, and employment changes.
  • Provide hands-on administration and troubleshooting within ADP.
  • Partner with the Acting Payroll Manager to support HR and payroll and resolve issues.
  • Support I-9 administration and other HR compliance processes.
  • Provide administrative support for workers' compensation and accommodation processes.
  • Assist with employee leave administration as needed.
  • Support Open Enrollment processes.
  • Identify and resolve day-to-day HR operational issues and improve processes.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is seeking an experienced Interim Human Resources Manager to provide hands-on HR operations support during a period of transition. This is a temporary assignment expected to begin in late September and continue through approximately the end of December 2026.

The Interim HR Manager will work closely with the Interim Director of Human Resources and A.C.T.'s HR and payroll team to support day-to-day HR operations and provide responsive, reliable service to employees and managers.

This opportunity is well suited for an experienced HR professional who can step into an active environment, quickly learn existing systems and processes, build relationships across the organization, and help keep HR operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as an accessible and responsive onsite HR resource for employees and managers, including managing and responding to the HR inbox.
  • Manage employee onboarding, offboarding, and employment changes.
  • Provide hands-on administration and troubleshooting within ADP.
  • Partner with the Acting Payroll Manager to provide HR and payroll support and resolve employee and system-related issues.
  • Support I-9 administration and other HR compliance processes.
  • Provide administrative support for workers' compensation and workplace accommodation processes.
  • Assist with employee leave administration, as needed.
  • Support A.C.T.'s upcoming annual Open Enrollment process.
  • Help identify and resolve day-to-day HR operational issues and improve processes where appropriate.
  • Provide additional HR operations support as organizational needs arise.
What We're Looking For
  • Significant hands-on HR operations/generalist experience, ideally at the HR Manager level or equivalent.
  • Experience working directly with employees and managers in a service-oriented HR environment.
  • Experience with ADP is required; advanced ADP experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting payroll processes and resolving payroll-related issues is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HR administration, employee lifecycle processes, and compliance.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, prioritize competing needs, and solve problems.
  • A collaborative and approachable style and the ability to build effective working relationships across an organization.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, performing arts, or similarly complex organization is helpful but not required.
