Job summary

The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired seeks a Facilities Supervisor to oversee Building & Grounds, Security, Drivers, and Front Desk staff at our Chicago campuses. You will supervise day‑to‑day maintenance, coordinate preventive maintenance, manage inventory, and assist with budget planning for major repairs.

Local travel 5-10% and a strong commitment to safety and accessibility are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Vocational training or specialized skills certification in relevant areas required; building engineering experience preferred.
• Dependability, self-initiative, and organizational skills required.
• At least 5 years of previous maintenance experience required.
• Previous supervisory and leadership experience required.
• Ability to analyze tasks and direct the work of others required.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong understanding of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and other related safety policies and best practices.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to monitor and maintain records and inventory.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates Building & Grounds staff and other listed personnel.
• Develops, implements, and oversees a work schedule of maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
• Maintains schedules for mechanical inspections and preventative maintenance; keeps records.
• Reports major repairs needs for budget consideration.
• Assists with recruitment and selection of staff; provides supervision and evaluations.
• Monitors inventory and re-orders supplies; procures materials for projects.
• Keeps exterior areas neat and safe; maintains landscaping and walkways.
• Regulates HVAC systems to balance comfort and energy use.
• Checks exit doors and panic hardware; ensures doors are secured.
• Opens/closes building; manages alarms and lighting.
