Open Hand Ministries (OHM) is a faith-based nonprofit committed to promoting financial wellness (including but not limited to the goal of equitable homeownership), strengthening families, and supporting long-term community stability in Pittsburgh's East End neighborhoods. Through collaborative community partnerships, financial coaching, and home rehabilitation and repair, OHM works to ensure that families can build generational wealth and thrive in place.

Summary

The Full-Time Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Open Hand Ministries, and will provide organizational leadership and management. The Executive Director will step into this role during a time of leadership transition, and will be instrumental in leading OHM into its future.

This leader will ensure that day-to-day operations continue smoothly; develop mission-focused strategies for operations, fundraising, and community engagement; and support, empower, and lead organizational staff. The values of Open Hand Ministries must guide all work. This Interim Executive Director role will support and build out the strategic model and plan of the organization over approximately 18 months, and establish a strategy for long-term sustainability of the organization.

Job Description
Organizational Leadership and Management
  • With support from the current Interim Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Staff, assure that the organization has a short-, mid-, and long-term strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
  • Provide steady, mission-aligned leadership to staff, volunteers, and partners.
  • Support and supervise staff, ensuring the inclusion and empowerment of staff within the organization, including clarity of roles, priorities, and expectations.
  • Maintain a healthy, collaborative, and supportive organizational culture.
  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
Operations and Administration
  • Manage the effective, efficient, and economic completion of construction, rehabilitation, contractor, and/or development projects set forth in the goals of the ministry.
  • Ensure effective systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Be the chief representative to internal and external stakeholders including the OHM community, board, nonprofit partners, foundations and other donor institutions, individual donors and friends of the ministry, and neighborhood organizations among others.
  • Work with staff to maintain accurate records, reporting, and documentation.
Fundraising and Development
  • With support from the Board and/or Fundraising Committee, develop a development strategy informed by the immediate, mid-term, and long-term needs and projected model of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Board and Finance Committee to monitor cash flow, financial health, and budget adherence, providing critical updates in a timely fashion.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement sound financial policies and practices throughout the organization to ensure accurate recordkeeping.
  • Support ongoing fundraising efforts and initiate new efforts, including donor communication, grant reporting, and community engagement.
  • Maintain, build, and rebuild strong relationships with partner organizations, funders, and community stakeholders.
Board Support
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing operations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Openly communicate with the Board and provide information necessary for the execution of their responsibilities.
