Job summary

LHH is seeking an experienced interim CFO for a well-known community hospital to elevate the sophistication and value of the finance function during a critical time. You will act as a strategic advisor to the CEO, drive meaningful change, and coach and onboard the permanent finance leader to set them up for success.

Job description

Our client, a well-known community hospital, is looking for a seasoned leader to elevate the sophistication and value of the finance function during a critical time for the organization. This is an exceptional interim assignment where you will have the opportunity to be a strategic advisor to the CEO, drive significant change and coach and onboard the permanent finance leader setting them up for success. Our client is utilizing this opportunity to over hire this role attracting a more senior resource than they can afford traditionally for a defined period of time to gain objective insights and to reposition finance and its long term strategic value to the organization.

Key Accountabilities:

• Coach, lead, and inspire a talented finance team through a transition.
• Complete the hiring and onboarding of the new permanent CFO.
• Assess the structure, operations, and activities, ensuring efficient and effective processes are in place.
• Be a strategic advisor to the CEO and the ELT in all matters related to financial programs, systems, and investments.
• Drive initiatives that strengthen revenue integrity, improve cash flow, optimize reimbursement, and enhance overall financial performance.
• Lead payer contracting and managed care strategies while building strong relationships with commercial and governmental payers.
• Support the ongoing capital projects providing the analysis and insights needed to guide them successfully.
• Work with the CEO to present the strategies for debt funding of future capital projects.
• Provides leadership to the Senior Management team in developing a long-term strategic financial plan including negotiated targets, major capital acquisitions, cash on hand, and debt positions.
• Plans, coordinates, and provides leadership to the development of the annual operating, annual capital and 3-year capital budgets.
• Provides guidance and counsel to the senior management team in all financial and business affairs; provides broad direction and guidance to all activities in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the CEO and Board of Directors.
• Ensures external audit and various program audits are prepared on an accurate and timely basis.

Competencies and Requirements:

• A strategic healthcare finance leader who can balance long-term vision with operational excellence.
• Experience managing financial reporting and budgeting for hospitals and long-term care homes.
• Deep knowledge of healthcare finance, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, reimbursement, and revenue cycle management.
• Significant experience with payer contracting, managed care strategy, reimbursement optimization, and payer relationship management.
• Ability to analyze concerns or problems in area of expertise and model a problem-solving methodology.
• Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities on the basis of quantifiable outcomes.
• Proven leadership abilities and performance management experience.
• Excellent interpersonal/listening skills to interact effectively with individuals of all backgrounds, experience, and education levels.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong integrity, ethics, and commitment.
