Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required, doctorate preferred, with an emphasis in instructional leadership and/or curriculum development.
  • Minimum of at least five years of successful teaching experience in a K-12 public school district required. Experience as a building level administrator and/or central office administrator is highly desired.
  • Certified as a Superintendent by the Rhode Island Department of Education or eligible for certification
  • Trained in Title IX to hold the Coordinator and Investigator roles for the district.
  • Superior skills in data collection and the ability to use data to make informed decisions about curriculum, instruction, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Experience in teaching, instruction, evaluation of building administrators, Career & Technical Education, curriculum development, grant writing, professional development, and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; be highly responsive to concerns; and have experience in curriculum development, planning and overseeing curriculum development, supervision of administrators, and grant development.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in this role or a similar one.
  • Must be able to work independently and with confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and direct the development of an articulated K-12 curriculum, ensuring that the curriculum is aligned with state and local standards.
  • Serving as a consultant to principals and teachers on all phases of the instructional program with a focus on coordinating the educational program among schools within the District.
  • Lead and facilitate the development, administration, and analysis of all K-12 curriculum-based common assessments and serve as the district’s state assessment coordinator.
  • Lead and facilitate content teams, intervention teams, grading and reporting committees, and other instructional teams, as needed.
  • Advocate for the use of effective instructional practices.
  • Lead curriculum reviews and review teams.
  • Chair the District Professional Development Committee, coordinating professional development days, and keeping up on the research for effective modes of implementing PD.
  • Planning professional development district days and embedded PD and disseminating information to members of the members of the administrative, instructional, and support staff.
  • Ensures that PD is aligned with high quality curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices of the district as well as any other District initiatives.
  • Work with specialists including Reading teachers, ELA and STEM coordinators, and MLL leads to ensure services are in place and that there is a continuous cycle of improvement.
  • Develop the Summer programs in consultation with principals.
  • Oversee the New Teacher Induction Program; ensuring the availability of PD for new teachers, mentor teachers, and emerging leaders.
  • Facilitate monthly induction meetings and supervise mentor coaching
  • Utilize online tools for facilitation of communication among induction participants;
  • Demonstrated skill in the preparation of federal, state, and local grants.
  • Coordinate the writing, implementation and evaluation of grants and special projects to include the development of such projects that are possible through state or federal legislation, local or cooperative partnerships, and/or competitive grants;
  • Monitor federal grant implementation and grant budgets.
  • Ensure that all requirements for the Consolidated grants are followed.
  • Work with building administrators, district content specialists and academic coaches in the continuous instructional walkthrough protocols.
  • Oversee school improvement plans and work with the Superintendent on updating the District Improvement Plan. Analyze assessment data for use with improvement efforts;
  • Conduct program reviews and chair district committees as assigned;
  • Serve as the Affirmitve Action Officer and Title IX Coordinator for the district;
  • Assist principals in developing instructional budgets including instructional materials and provisions for teaching and learning programs.
